Legal
Terms of Service
Last updated: [PLACEHOLDER: EFFECTIVE DATE]
1. Operator and contracting party
The Ciripi social platform (“Service”) accessible at ciripi.com is operated by [PLACEHOLDER: COMPANY NAME] S.R.L., a limited-liability company incorporated under Romanian law, ORC registration no. [PLACEHOLDER: ORC NUMBER], registered office at [PLACEHOLDER: FULL REGISTERED ADDRESS], Timișoara, România (“Ciripi”, “we”, “us”, “our”).
Legal and contractual enquiries: legal@ciripi.com.
2. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using the Service you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”), our Privacy Policy, and our Cookie Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Ciripi, governed by the laws of Romania and the European Union. Where Romanian or EU mandatory consumer-protection rules afford you greater protection than these Terms, those rules prevail.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account and use the Service, in accordance with Article 8 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) as implemented by Romanian Law no. 190/2018. By registering you confirm that you meet this requirement.
If you are between 16 and 18 years old, we recommend informing a parent or guardian that you use Ciripi. We cannot technically verify age beyond the declaration made at registration; if we become aware that a user is under 16, we will delete their account immediately.
4. Account registration and security
- You may register with an email address and password, or by using Google Sign-In. When you use Google Sign-In, Google’s own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy govern that authentication step.
- You must provide accurate, current information and keep it up to date.
- One account per person. Creating duplicate accounts to evade a ban or restriction is prohibited.
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
- Notify us immediately at support@ciripi.com if you suspect any unauthorised access to your account.
- You may not transfer, sell, or assign your account to any other person.
5. User-generated content
5.1 Scope
“User-generated content” (“UGC”) means everything you create, upload, or submit through the Service, including: posts, blog articles, comments, votes, direct messages, event-chat messages, profile information (bio, avatar, interests, cover image), event details, group requests, and support-ticket messages.
5.2 Ownership
You retain all intellectual property rights in your UGC. By submitting UGC you grant Ciripi a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to store, display, reproduce, adapt, and distribute your UGC solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service. This licence terminates when you delete the UGC or your account, subject to any residual copies retained in back-up systems during the periods set out in our Privacy Policy.
5.3 Your responsibility
You are solely responsible for your UGC. Ciripi does not endorse any UGC and is not liable for it. You warrant that your UGC does not infringe any third-party rights and complies with all applicable law.
5.4 Prohibited content
You must not post, upload, or transmit content that:
- Is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, or defamatory
- Infringes any intellectual property, privacy, personality, or other right of any person or entity
- Constitutes or depicts child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — violations are reported to relevant law-enforcement authorities
- Promotes violence, terrorism, or hatred against any group on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or similar characteristic
- Discloses (“doxes”) another person’s private information without their explicit consent
- Constitutes spam, unsolicited advertising, or deliberate misinformation
- Contains malware, viruses, or any other harmful or disruptive code
- Violates any applicable law or regulation in Romania, the European Union, or the jurisdiction where the content is produced or received
5.5 Automated content moderation
Ciripi operates an automated text filter that runs locally in your browser before content is submitted to our servers. The filter checks text in posts, comments, blogs, event descriptions, group names, and chat messages against a list of prohibited terms and harassment patterns. By using the Service you acknowledge that:
- Content that triggers the filter is blocked before publication and is not sent to our servers until the offending language is removed.
- The filter is automated and may occasionally produce false positives. If you believe a block was in error, contact support@ciripi.com.
- Attempting to circumvent the filter — through deliberate misspellings, character substitution, inserted spaces, or equivalent terms in other languages — is a violation of these Terms.
- Repeated triggering of the filter within a short period may result in a temporary posting restriction on your account.
- The list of filtered terms is maintained by Ciripi and updated without prior notice.
This automated measure prevents a specific submission from being published; it does not otherwise affect your account or rights. You may re-submit corrected content immediately. For further details on automated processing, see our Privacy Policy §7.
6. Community conduct
- Treat all members with respect. Targeted harassment, sustained abuse, or bullying will result in account suspension or permanent ban.
- Do not impersonate any person, entity, or Ciripi staff member.
- Do not manipulate vote scores through bots, scripts, multiple accounts, or coordinated inauthentic behaviour.
- Do not scrape, crawl, or systematically harvest content from the Service without our prior written permission.
- Do not attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service, its databases, or its infrastructure.
- Do not use the Service to send unsolicited commercial messages (spam) to other users.
7. Ciripi intellectual property
All non-UGC elements of the Service — including the Ciripi name, logo, interface design, branding, and source code — are owned by or licensed to Ciripi and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our express written permission.
8. Location features
Location-based features are entirely voluntary. You may configure location in two modes via Settings → Location & Feed:
- By Area: You pin a point on a map. We store the latitude, longitude, and a search-radius (km) you choose. These coordinates are used server-side to filter your content feed and are never displayed to or shared with other users.
- By Country: You select a country name. Only the country name is stored; no geographic coordinates are processed.
When you create an event, the event’s location label (a human-readable place name you type) is visible to event participants. Any precise coordinates you set for an event are used only for distance-based filtering and are not individually disclosed to participants.
You can update or remove your location at any time in Settings → Location & Feed. Full details of how location data is processed are set out in our Privacy Policy §5.
9. Events
- Your username and RSVP status (Participating or Maybe) are visible to other participants of any event you join.
- As event organiser you are responsible for the accuracy of event details (date, time, location, description).
- Event chat messages are subject to the same content rules as posts (Section 5).
- Ciripi facilitates event organisation but is not a party to any real-world meetup. Attend in-person events at your own discretion and risk. Ciripi is not liable for any harm arising from real-world meetings organised through the platform.
10. Direct messaging
Direct messages are private between you and the recipient and are stored on our servers. Messages are subject to the same prohibited-content rules as public UGC (Section 5.4). Ciripi does not routinely access private messages, but may do so in response to a valid legal order or a verified abuse report submitted by a participant in the conversation.
11. Push notifications
Push notifications are strictly opt-in. You will be prompted by your browser for permission before any push notification is delivered. Once enabled, notifications may cover events such as new likes, comments, mentions, follows, event updates, and group-request decisions. You can disable push notifications at any time in Settings → Notifications or through your browser’s site-permission settings.
12. In-app notifications and follows
By using Ciripi you consent to receiving in-app notifications for activity related to your content and account (likes, comments, mentions, follows, event updates, group decisions). You can manage notification preferences in Settings. Following another user surfaces their public posts in your feed; it does not grant you access to their private information or direct messages.
13. Reporting and moderation
You may report any post, blog, or event you believe violates these Terms using the in-app report function. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team. We reserve the right, at our sole discretion and without prior notice, to:
- Remove any content that violates these Terms
- Suspend or permanently ban accounts for repeated or severe violations
- Report illegal content to relevant law-enforcement authorities
We do not disclose the identity of reporters to the reported party. Filing false or malicious reports may result in action being taken against your own account. If your content is removed and you believe this was in error, email support@ciripi.com with a description of the content and the reason you believe it should be reinstated.
14. Public access and the Explore page
Certain areas of the Service — including the Explore page and public blog listings — are accessible without an account. By browsing these areas you still accept these Terms. In particular:
- Only published content is publicly visible. Drafts, private messages, and event-chat conversations are not accessible without an account.
- You must not use public pages to harvest, scrape, or index content for commercial purposes without our prior written permission.
15. Third-party services
The Service integrates with third-party providers — most notably Google (for OAuth sign-in). When you interact with a third-party service, that provider’s own terms and privacy policy apply to their processing. Ciripi is not responsible for the data practices of third-party providers. A full list of data processors and the data they receive is set out in our Privacy Policy §4.
16. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. Your use is at your own risk. This disclaimer does not affect any statutory rights you may have as a consumer under Romanian or EU law.
17. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Ciripi and its directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed €100.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for: death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under mandatory Romanian or EU law, including consumer-protection rights under OG 21/1992 and Law 363/2007.
18. Termination
You may request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us at privacy@ciripi.com or by using the Delete Account function in Settings → Account. Upon deletion your personal data will be erased as described in our Privacy Policy §7.
We may suspend or terminate your account immediately and without prior notice if you breach these Terms. Upon termination your licence to use the Service ceases. Provisions that by their nature survive termination — including Sections 5.2, 7, 16, 17, 19, and 20 — shall remain in effect.
19. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them are governed by the laws of Romania and, where applicable, the law of the European Union. The courts of Romania — and in particular the courts of Timișoara — shall have non-exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute, subject to any mandatory jurisdictional rules applicable in your country of residence as a consumer under Council Regulation (EU) 1215/2012.
20. Dispute resolution
We encourage you to contact us first at legal@ciripi.com to resolve any dispute informally. If we cannot reach an agreement within 30 days:
- For data-protection matters, you may lodge a complaint with the Romanian supervisory authority, ANSPDCP (see our Privacy Policy §11).
- For consumer disputes, the European Online Dispute Resolution platform is available at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
- You retain the right to bring a claim before the competent Romanian court or before the courts of your country of habitual residence.
21. Amendments
We may update these Terms at any time. For material changes — changes that materially affect your rights or obligations — we will provide at least 30 days’ advance notice by email and/or in-app notification before the change takes effect. For minor clarifications we will update the “Last updated” date without advance notice. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of a change constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
22. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed if modification is not possible, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
